We have four donation bins strategically placed across Dumfries for your convenience:

All our donation bins are clearly marked and easy to find. Simply look for the SHAX Charity donation bin signage at each location.
What You Can Donate
We accept a wide range of items that help us create Emergency Home Starter Packs and support individuals moving into permanent housing. All items must be clean, safe, and in good condition.
Household Items
- Everyday crockery, dining sets, cutlery & utensils
- Pots, pans, and other cookware
- Bed linen, towels, and unopened Christmas gift sets
Furniture (with fire labels*)
- Beds, sofas, dining tables & chairs
- Bedroom furniture including wardrobes, drawers, and bedside tables
- Soft furnishings (curtains, cushions, rugs)
Electrical Items
- White goods and small electricals in working condition
- TVs and computer consoles
Personal Items
- Clothing, shoes, and accessories
- Children’s toys, books & games
- Mobility aids
- High-chairs, baby baths & cots
*Fire labels are mandatory tags on UK upholstered furniture that confirm compliance with fire safety standards. All furniture items must have these labels attached.
Donation Guidelines
To help us manage the flow of donations effectively and ensure we can process everything efficiently, please limit your donation to 2x bags or 2x boxes per donation.
This guideline helps us:

- Maintain quality control of donated items

What We Can’t Accept
For safety, legal, and environmental reasons, we cannot accept the following items:
- Wall units or large display cabinets
- Bicycles and bric-a-brac
- Broken or heavily worn stained furniture
- Mattresses, sofas, or chairs with rips, tears, or stains without fire labels
- Damaged or faulty electrical items or white goods
- Used safety equipment (e.g., crash helmets)
- Children’s car seats and baby mattresses
- Gas appliances or heaters
- Ivory, fur, or taxidermy
- Counterfeit or copyright-infringing items
- DVDs, VHS tapes, and cassette media
- Mobility items that are incomplete or unsafe
These restrictions help us focus our resources on items that can be safely reused and ensure we’re not spending money on disposal costs that could go toward support services.
